Accessibility Statement for the Whittard Website
We want everyone who visits our website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding. We are committed to accessibility and believe all our customers should be able to shop online and navigate our website with ease - regardless of ability.
How we will accomplish our goals:
Our team is conducting regular accessibility testing, which was last completed on the 7th of July 2025. We are working toward compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
To support this, we are using industry-standard tools and technologies such as axe DevTools, VoiceOver, NVDA, and TalkBack, alongside manual and guided testing on both desktop and mobile devices.
Some of the key areas we are addressing include:
- Improved Site Structure for screen reader navigation
- Full Keyboard Accessibility for all interactive content
- Alternative Text for meaningful images and graphics
- Consistent Layouts to enhance usability across pages
Conformance status
The site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. This means that some parts of the content do not fully meet accessibility standards. However, we’re endeavouring to implement any/all changes by the 2030 deadline.
Known issues
Our audit identified a total of 43 accessibility issues:
- High priority: 33
- Medium priority: 6
- Low priority: 4
Common issues include:
- Keyboard navigation failures – Many elements are not accessible via keyboard, blocking users with motor impairments.
- Incorrect or missing ARIA roles and names – Elements lack proper ARIA attributes, confusing assistive technologies.
- Missing or poor alternative text – Images either lack alt text or use vague/redundant descriptions.
- Low color contrast – Text and interactive elements do not meet WCAG contrast requirements.
- Missing or incorrect labels – Form fields, buttons, and dropdowns are not properly labelled.
- Focus and modal issues – Focus moves to hidden elements or outside modals, disrupting user flow. Or incorrect accessible names for form fields, buttons and controls
