  • Full Description

The estate’s unique microclimate, with cool mountain breezes, misty mornings, and mineral-rich soil, creates the perfect environment for leaves with delicate, floral character. Over the long, cool winter months, the ancient tea bushes hibernate and store up all their flavour. When spring arrives and the plants burst back to life, they provide an intense, crisp flavour. The first buds are tender, vibrant, and packed with natural freshness.
What makes this harvest so coveted is timing and care. The leaves must be handpicked at the perfect moment, and any delay can alter their flavour. This fleeting window creates a tea that is exclusive, seasonal, and highly prized.

Margaret's Hope

Planted out in this lovely location, about a century ago, the unusual name 'Margaret's Hope' was given to the garden in 1927, by the owner Mr. Cruikshank. His daughter, Margaret, enchanted by the beauty of this garden, was deeply attached to the place. Before leaving for England, she promised to return. Unfortunately, she died of a lethal tropical disease on board the ship, never to return.

Thus, her dream remained unfulfilled and her father christened the garden in her memory. Earlier the garden was known as Bara -Ringtong. Two pretty rivers flow through the estates. The teas grow at elevations of 915 metres to 1830 metres and are predominantly China bushes. Margaret's Hope, is as romantic a place as its name suggests.

NUMEROLOGY

We've given our Margaret's Hope First Flush Darjeeling the number 865, to mark the founding date of the world-famous estate in 1865.

INDIA

The Margaret's Hope plantation is nestled in an exclusive corner of the Himalayan mountains, deep in the region of Darjeeling. Elevated up to 1830m above sea level, the cool mountain air encourages slow growth of the tea bushes which encourages the leaves to develop a more intense flavour. Many of these ancient tea bushes are over 150 years old and have been carefully cultivated to create this exquisitely crisp tea.

Store in a sealed jar or tin, such as our Fill-Me-Up Tea Caddies.
