6 Cosy Night In Ideas for Autumn

There’s something rather lovely about an Autumn evening at home. The curtains close a little earlier, the sofa becomes considerably more inviting and the kettle starts earning its keep.

If you’re looking for a few ways to make the most of those longer evenings, we have six ideas to get you started. From a suitably spooky movie night to a slow Sunday with nowhere to be, each one comes with a seasonal brew to match.

So put on something comfortable, choose your favourite mug and settle in.

Step 01

1. Host Your Own Scary Movie Night

Lights down, phones away and something suitably spooky on the screen. A scary movie night calls for a drink that’s comforting enough to reach for when the soundtrack gets a little too suspenseful.

Enter our new Toffee Apple Hot Chocolate: rich, buttery toffee and smooth white chocolate with a bright note of crisp apple, inspired by one of Autumn’s most recognisable treats.

Make a mug while the opening credits roll, add a generous swirl of whipped cream and settle in for the first fright. The combination of chocolate, toffee and apple brings a little bonfire night magic to the evening, without requiring you to venture any further than the kitchen (or the sofa).

Feeling particularly festive? Give your mug a Halloween makeover with our Halloween hot chocolate recipe, complete with marshmallow ghosts and raspberry ripple ‘slime’.

Step 02

2. Turn the Sofa into Date Night

A good date night doesn’t always require a restaurant reservation. Sometimes all you need is two mugs, something delicious to share and nowhere else you need to be.

Make one mug of Luxury Hot Chocolate, our signature blend with a minimum of 37% cocoa solids, and another of Luxury White Hot Chocolate, wonderfully creamy and indulgent.

For the perfect serve, whisk three heaped teaspoons into a mug of hot milk until smooth and lightly frothy. Add a little something sweet on the side, choose a favourite film and let the evening take its time.

Candles are optional. Chocolate is not.

Step 03

3. Bake Something Worth Staying In For

There’s a particular kind of warmth that comes from an oven on an Autumn evening. Add the smell of something freshly baked and you have very little reason to go anywhere else.

Choose an Autumnal bake, such as our Spiced Pumpkin Chai muffins, then put on the kettle for a Spiced Pumpkin Chai Loose Tea while it bakes.

Inspired by masala chai, our blend combines black tea with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom and black pepper, with a subtle hint of orange. Sweeten to taste, find something warm to eat straight from the oven and enjoy the sort of evening that makes staying in feel like the better plan.

Step 01

4. A Book, a Blanket and a Proper Brew

Some evenings are made for doing very little at all.

Put your phone somewhere out of reach, choose a book you’ve been meaning to finish and brew a cuppa of Earl Grey Loose Tea.

Our Earl Grey combines Chinese and Kenyan black teas with the distinctive citrus character of bergamot and delicate blue cornflower petals. It’s beautifully aromatic, familiar and just the right companion for a quiet hour.

Settle in with your brew, turn the page and let the evening unfold at its own pace.

A biscuit is, of course, entirely appropriate.

Step 02

5. Make Games Night a Little More Indulgent

Whether your games night involves cards, board games or a little friendly competition, every good game needs refreshments.

For something a little different, try an Autumn-inspired affogato using Pumpkin Spice Flavour Ground Coffee.

Our light-roast Arabica has warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, bringing a little Autumn spice to the classic combination of coffee and vanilla ice cream.

Simply add a scoop of ice cream to a small glass or cup and pour over a shot of freshly brewed coffee. The hot coffee melts into the ice cream, creating something between a dessert and a very good coffee break.

It’s the perfect little indulgence between rounds, although we make no guarantees that it will improve your chances of winning.

Step 03

6. Make the Last Hour of the Day a Little Softer

The final hour before bed deserves a little attention. Instead of reaching for another episode or scrolling through your phone, make yourself something warm and give the day a proper ending.

Dreamtime Flavour Instant Tea combines honey and ripe apricot with a smooth vanilla finish, creating a naturally comforting cup that’s ready in moments.

Simply add a spoonful to your mug, pour over hot water and stir. No teapot required, and very little washing up.

It’s particularly good for those evenings when you want something warm and soothing without making a great production of it. Turn down the lights, put the kettle away and enjoy the last few quiet moments before bed.
