Fine, medium, coarse... what's the difference?
Can you use any type of grind with a cafetière or for drip coffee? using a grind designed for your equipment of choice can transform the results, from unpleasant and tasteless to smooth and flavourful.
Under-extracted coffee is often sour, sharp and even a touch salty, while over-extracted can be flat and bitter. But get the grind right, and you'll coax out the full flavour.
Here's our trick for getting it spot on, every time: the longer the coffee spends in water, the coarser the grind should be. So with a cafetière, where the coffee is fully submerged for a good few minutes, a coarser grind will give you the most delicious finish.
